Department of Medical-surgical Nursing
Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing aims to advance health care through nursing research, education, and practice that respects the dignity of the human person in populations at risk for or experiencing acute and chronic conditions. With a faculty team of 2 professors, 9 associate professors,1 lecturers and a postdoctoral, the department undertakes major clinical nursing coursesfor both undergraduate and graduate programs. Chronic disease management,oncology nursing and clinical nutrition are the main streams of research interests of this department.
The team of Chronic disease management stream commits to provide leadership which focuses on the prevention, nursing care, patient education and long-term care of chronic illnesses for different phases andwhole lifespanfrom biomedical, social and behavioral, psycho-spirital, and cost-effective perspective. Studies are conducted in a variety of settings, including hospitals, communities and long-term care organizations.Some examples of research topics include innovative lifestyle and psychosocial intervention strategy, smoking cessation & Tobacco Control, symptom management, depression and cognition impairment, medication discrepancyand transition care.
Oncology nursing and clinical nutritionstream focuses on cancer related symptoms, nutrition status in cancer patients, complication care and palliative care. They have done many stuidieson cancer related symptoms such as pain, fatigue, bowl symptoms and symptom cluster. They paid much attention to the nutritional status of patients with gastrointestinal cancer, breast cancer and head and neck neoplasm. Furthermore, they developed some intervention programs to help cancer patients who were suffered by some treatment-related complications such as breast cancer related lymphoedema (BCRL), DVT, and colostomy related problems.
